Be sure to check a pulse. Get a sense of their mental status, get a rectal temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure. Consider labs and treat appropriately. Make sure cardiac causes are on the differential for the downed athlete.

Hyponatremia—risk factors include high fluid intake and being on the course for a longer period of time. These individuals may present with mental status changes, fluffiness, dizziness, and treatment with oral sodium or hypertonic saline.
